Our origin

Lotik came out of a critical problem in collaborative innovation: how do you share intellectual property and knowledge securely and traceably?

We studied why R&D collaborations fail before building the platform that prevents it. The research behind Lotik began at the University of São Paulo, was validated with industry and presented at international forums. We know this environment from the inside.

Challenges in collaborative R&D and innovation

Three questions that shape the daily work.

Three questions that shape the daily work of anyone running R&D with partners — and that Lotik was built to answer. Ecosystems, networks, bilateral partnerships: the format changes, the challenges are much the same.

Sharing without fear

The unease of exchanging data, files and sensitive information between partners, and the risk of exposing what shouldn’t be exposed.

Deliverables and investment

Do the deliverables and the investment match what was agreed?

Reporting and compliance

How do you prepare reports and speed up compliance, when they are assembled by hand every cycle?

The cost of the status quo

Collaborating without traceability carries cost and risk.

A cost absorbed in silence today — without legal cover, audit or transparency.

Rise in disputes

Growth in intellectual property, innovation and technology disputes in one year. Under WIPO rules, 59% of the parties are SMEs and startups. Source: WIPO · ADR Highlights 2025.

Lack of transparency

Risk of improper use of Lei do Bem tax benefits estimated by the TCU, Brazil’s federal audit court, from discrepancies between what companies reported to the science ministry and to the federal tax authority. The audit (2015–2022) also found the policy operates without an effective monitoring and evaluation system. Source: TCU · Ruling 447/2025-Plenary, 26 Feb 2025.

The solution

Secure. Transparent. Agile.

A blockchain-based platform supporting collaborative R&D and innovation projects.

Secure

Protected intellectual property and provable authorship. Immutable records, cryptographic protection and evidence of authorship.

Transparent

Every action recorded and verifiable by those entitled to see it. Permissions by partner and a single source of truth.

Agile

Reports and agreements in minutes, not months. Versioned agreements and tracked indicators.

How it works

A simple flow on an immutable foundation.

From planning to project closeout, every stage is recorded and verifiable, with no extra manual work.

Planning

Partners, participation (equity), contributions in kind and permissions defined before the work starts. Each party declares the background intellectual property it brings to the project.

Agreement

Contracts, deliverables and ownership of the intellectual property generated are recorded alongside the project, with each partner’s rules visible to those entitled to see them.

Management

Progress, contributions delivered, payments, agreement changes and indicators in one place.

Traceability

Every contribution and every change versioned and verifiable, from project start to closeout.

What the research found

The same difficulty, across every sector.

We asked the people who live it every day: directors, executives and founders, from large industry to innovation agents. Two pain points led the list, and neither of them was technical.

Research base
102 interviews 8 countries 4 continents 8 sectors 63% in leadership and management
1st pain point 59%

point to intellectual property as the main difficulty in collaborative projects.

Incidence across the 102 interviews

2nd pain point 49%

point to management of contracts and agreements between partners.

Incidence across the 102 interviews

Both pain points appeared in all eight sectors surveyed — from pharmaceuticals and life sciences to innovation agencies and hubs. This is a governance problem, not a sector problem.
